Upton Farm gets new lease of life, thanks to successful live/work planning success.
A disused 19th century dairy farm near East Knoyle in Wiltshire is due to be transformed into a live/work space thanks to the innovative vision of the team at Rural Solutions Ltd.
The farm which is located within the Cranborne Chase and West Wiltshire Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and is part of the Clouds Estate will achieve its new look by; removing an unsightly 1970’s, steel framed barn, and creating within its footprint a smaller, new building which connects to the old dairy. This new build element echoes the traditional barn structures present on the site and in the local Wiltshire landscape. Studio space for the owner’s film and art ventures will be created within the traditional dairy buildings that will adjoin the living areas, thus allowing for an ‘easy’ relationship between the ‘live’ and the ‘work’ elements of the scheme.
The venture will retain traditional features and keep any new build in tune with and subservient to the existing structures and the local vernacular. Environmentally friendly technology, will be used where possible, to service the buildings. The whole scheme will be heated via a Ground Source Heat Pump, and, more exclusively an ‘eco-carport’ is to be built providing unique living space for Barn Owls, Bats and Swallows, as well as for the cars!
