Working with the client, we produced a design for a new contemporary style eco-house on an open, sloping site in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in North Yorkshire.

Incorporating a dynamic, landscape-based concept we used indigenous dry-stone walls which traverse down the site, in keeping with the local area. These create a tiered house which flows from bedrooms to the rear to the main living space and then on to a large terrace and ornamental pool.

The contemporary design comprises of a second phase of development on the client’s landholding, following consent for an earlier residential development of more traditional dwellings nearby.

The house is consciously set low into the site and built into the hillside to ensure minimal visual impact and designed deliberately to blend into the landscape, using local, natural materials; a beautiful home anchored in nature.

An eco-house type is one that Rural Solutions is delighted to be able to create and develop. The concept encompasses a range of environmental features, including ground source heating, a green roof, rainwater harvesting, heat recovery and the use of sustainable materials.

Working together with our planning team, permission was obtained for the client.
