PLANNING NEWS: CONSENT SECURED FOR WEST YORKSHIRE ECO-HOUSE
Rural Solutions recently secured planning consent for a new zero carbon, contemporary eco-house in Ilkley, West Yorkshire.
The new house was designed to replace several large commercial storage buildings in order to provide a new family home for the owners and elegantly designed with a view to meeting Passivhaus standards. The location of the site is upon the hills above Ilkley, which lies within the Green Belt and Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
The location of the site within a prominent position in the AONB landscape and Green Belt made it a challenging project. However, by closely working with the Borough Council and AONB Team at the pre-application stage and making sure the architecture was of the highest standard and that landscape and ecology matters were fully considered, Rural Solutions were able to ensure that a design which will hopefully go onto win awards, was granted consent.
The application was overseen by the Harrogate Planning Department, who reported that there was only support expressed by neighbouring residents. They stated:
“The dwelling and annex are innovatively designed and would be constructed of sustainable materials resulting in an improvement of the character and appearance of the AONB.”
The new home which has been designed to be contemporary yet sensitive to the local vernacular, through use of natural stone, was designed by acclaimed architects McGarry Moon. Landscape and environmental services were provided by Skipton-based JBA Consulting.
This is the third new home of contemporary design that Rural Solutions have achieved consent for in the Nidderdale AONB. Work is planned to start on the house in 2019 and to be completed in in early 2020.
