We are delighted to congratulate Kate Girling, Senior Planner here at Rural Solutions Ltd, on her new role as the 2021/22 Chair of Women in Property for the Yorkshire and the North East region.

Kate will hold the position for a full year from the 1st March 2021 and is excited to be taking an active role within Women in Property, an organisation that seeks to support, mentor and increase opportunities for women in the property and construction industries. Having been a member of Women in Property for 12 years, and on the Committee for three, Kate understands well the importance of the work that Women in Property does.

As a Senior Planner at Rural Solutions, Kate has worked with a wide range of clients, advising on and delivering high-quality rural developments and diversification projects.

Over the next year, Kate will be further developing the initiatives that are core to Women in Property, including flexible working, mentoring women whether they are just starting in the industry or stepping up to the board, offering support to women returning to work and focusing on mental wellbeing.

COVID-19 has made this a very difficult year for a lot of people, as we have all had to adapt to change and tackle new challenges. I am looking forward to working with the Committee over the next 12 months to continue to offer our support to members and provide a great programme of events. Great strides have been made in this industry, but we know work still needs to be done to challenge stereotypes, celebrate diversity, champion role models and achieve a more balanced workplace.

We are hugely supportive of Kate as she takes on this new role. We are great advocates of greater diversity in the industry. At present 56% of all Rural Solutions employees are female and we look forward to supporting Kate’s efforts over the coming year.

Women in Property has continued to support its members during the COVID-19 pandemic, adapting quickly to transfer CPD, mentoring and informal events to a virtual setting. Moving their world online, Women in Property ran over 100 events over the last year.

All of the Women in Property events can be found on the national platform and the diverse North East offerings ranged from seminars focusing on Modern Construction and virtual site visits through to wellbeing and mental health support events.
