MINISTRY OF HOUSING, COMMUNITIES AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT (MHCLG) ANNOUNCE A REVIEW OF THE RULES AROUND SELF-BUILD
We are pleased to hear news that the Government plan to review the rules around self-build in order to encourage this area of development.
The key points;
- Law to be reviewed to make it easier for people dreaming of building their own homes,
- Councils urged to ensure planning permission is granted for suitable plots,
- Measures follow reforms to place local people at the heart of the planning process.
The custom and self build housing sector is a growing market and we are encouraged by the renewed emphasis the Government has placed on this through its plans to hold roundtable discussions with the sector and councils. Self build housing has the potential to provide the quality and choice of housing people want either through building their own homes or through commissioning a home to their own design through a custom self build housing provider.
Rural Solutions is involved in a number of existing and innovative custom and self build projects, ranging from 5 to 65 units. See our new residential portfolio here.
Companies like Leaper Land Promotion are at the forefront of promoting this form of housing development, which is likely to make up a greater share of the UK housing stock in the future.
There is a legislative requirement for all authorities to provide sufficient custom and self-build housing plots to meet the demands of their registers. We are pleased to see the Government are looking more closely at this, as many authorities are not keeping pace with demand. Increasing the supply of custom and self-build housing will provide people with a better quality of housing and greater customer choice - something we strive to offer as a Company. Our knowledge and expertise make us uniquely placed to deliver more housing of this nature. We look forward to hearing more.
