Our charity partner, the Country Trust are a small but dynamic, national education charity dedicated to bringing the working countryside to life for the children least able to access it in their everyday lives.

They help disadvantaged children to learn and grow in three ways, through:

  • Day visits to real working farms
  • Residential visits to the countryside
  • Yearlong programmes exploring every aspect of growing, cooking and even selling food.

Understandably, but very sadly, their programmes are now on hold due to COVID-19 outbreak guidelines and schools being closed.

In the meantime, as they can’t take children to farms, they are looking at other ways they can continue to celebrate the countryside and grow awareness of their cause.

They are currently working with another children charity, Barnardo’s to provide activities for children in ‘digitally excluded’ families with low literacy levels, and offering these to other charities and schools to help children engage with nature during their hour of daily exercise outside.

And they have also launched their ‘thank you farmers’ campaign.

They are appealing for help to gather stories of countryside kindness and to celebrate our incredible farmers and everything they are doing to feed the nation during this time alongside all the other amazing key workers in the country.

Please nominate a farmer for their efforts by using #thankyoufarmers on social media or contact us at info@countrytrust.org.uk.
