By Nicole Wright | 26.01.24

We are now well into the new year with a general election on the horizon. We have compiled local plan updates which we hope will provide clarity on the planning framework to guide important decisions. This update reports on the status of local plans in New King’s Lynn & West Norfolk.

KING'S LYNN & WEST NORFOLK

New King’s Lynn & West Norfolk Local Plan

A review of the King’s Lynn & West Norfolk Local Plan commenced in 2016. The Submission Draft Plan was submitted to the Secretary of State in March 2022 and the examination hearings opened in December 2022. On 11th January 2023, the inspectors adjourned the hearings to allow the council to carry out further work to justify the spatial strategy and distribution of housing.

The council published a suite of topic papers after the adjournment to address various issues and consulted on these between September and October 2023.

These included:

  • An updated Gypsy and Traveller Accommodation Assessment
  • Spatial strategy
  • Settlement hierarchy
  • Transport
  • Housing land supply
  • The West Winch Growth Area and
  • Viability.

It is expected that work on reviewing the consultation responses will be concluded in April 2024. A date when the hearing will be resumed will then be announced.
