Rural Solutions were appointed to develop a Strategic Masterplan for phased expansion of an established village. The initial proposals were prepared to support early discussions with the Local Authority and present for engagement at community stakeholder events.
The Strategic Masterplan layout was influenced by a series of landscape constraints including flood zone, Public Rights of Way, views and established trees. These constraints positively informed the design to ensure the site felt of place and established from the outset. Housing locations sought to provide active frontage to public open space and reflect the successful established village character.
The housing mix and location of dwelling types was informed through village consultation to identify the long-term needs and design appropriately for the evolving community. Within the housing mix a proportion of bungalows and starter homes were included to embed opportunities for progression through the housing ladder. Pedestrian permeability, connections with established neighbourhoods and priority for green movement were integral to the vision to promote a long term sustainable and attractive village community.
